Most persons who read this page do so because they are feeling that life and/or their relationship has become unmanageable, and they are searching for someone who can assist them during this time. They may not be familiar with the process of counseling, and unaware of exactly how and why it might help them. In fact, when an individual, or couple walks through my door for the first time, I know they are interviewing me in order to discover if I am the right person for their process.
I consider it a great privilege to walk beside my clients during these turbulent life transitions. I have been in the profession of helping people since 1986, and have been in the profession of counseling since 2002. I completed my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Abilene Christian University in 2003, and I was recognized in 2002 and 2003 for outstanding work in the counseling process. I was a co-researcher and co-author on award-winning research on the effect of forgiveness on marital relationships. I am always in the process of learning new skills and researching effective treatment for a variety of mental health disorders.
I feel privileged to have the skill set to treat a wide range of problems that hurting people bring to me. My training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and advanced treatments for couples dealing with infidelity. I am trained in hypnotherapy, and may use it as a tool during the counseling process. My additional education and work experience as a clinical dietician provides me with the unique ability to treat disorders from a biological, psychological, and sociological perspective.
